The dates for 2026 are:

Cars  – the Solar Car Challenge will take place on Sunday November 8 at HCHS.
Boats –  the Solar Boat Challenge will be held on Thursday November 26 – same venue.

The National Finals are also being held at Hobart City High School on Dec 5 & 6.

Volunteers are needed to help with timing and general organising. Please contact Tim Oxley oxley.tim@gmail.com

The Old Scholars arranged materials for a second pool to enable races to happen simultaneously. This was needed with the teams from primary and secondary schools.

Students who have participated in the solar challenge have redesigned the corner posts for the pool.
This will enable easier assembly and disassembly of the pools. The design is currently with INCAT for their apprentices to fabricate the posts ready for the events later in the year.

This exercise is in-line with HCHS plans to collaborate with local industry and provide students with experience in design and engineering. The Old Scholars committee have been happy to help the school in this collaboration exercise.

A big Thank You to Brett McKay at McKay Timber for supplying the timber planks for the pool.
