Chairmans Report

June and July have been exciting times for  the Old Scholars Association, building its connection with Hobart City High School and old scholars.

The Association has :

  1. Donated $2500.00 to the school towards the purchase of 3D printers
  2. Participated in the HCHS Thinking Forward Forum creating success focussed student pathways in areas of Health, Engineering and Advanced Manufacturing. Four former students with engineering expertise, one former senior medical professional and  three committee members joined with Industry partners, the school Principal , staff and students. This is a very worthwhile school initiative and I will provide more information as it develops.
  3. Presented life experience and wellbeing discussion with year 9 Horizon program students. These presentations, involving Hall of Excellence members and Rick Cazaly, will continue through the remainder of the year.
  4. Continued Health and Wellbeing sessions for former students and friends at the school Pavilion. Now three times weekly (Sundays 8.15am, Tuesdays 6.15 pm and Thursdays 6.15 am). We still have a few spots left for the Tuesday evening session. Call Rick Cazaly on 0438 215 795 or me on 0412 906 328

Fund raising is a critical function of the committee. If you have any unused/ not required mechanical, electrical or battery operated appliances in your garage/ shed, we can refurbish them for sale and donate income to school programs.

Nominations from former students, teachers for this years Hall of Excellence awards have now closed .  The Awards will be presented at a function on Sunday 20 September. More details will be advised soon. You are most welcome to attend.

The Association’s Annual General Meeting will be held on Tuesday 8 September, 5pm at the New Town campus.

Nominations are open for positions on the committee and close on 18 August. Please call Wayne Fletcher on 0419 034 410 or me  if you would like to nominate.

A Grandparents day for relatives of Year 7  at Ogilvie campus is scheduled for later in last term. Details to be advised in next newsletter.

I look forward to your comments or suggestions on the above matters or indeed any initiatives you think the committee could adopt. My email is john@johnbarker.biz
