OVERWEIGHT AND LACKING ENERGY? JOIN THE CLUB.

Since January 2025 we have been running Boys of the Blue Triangle Health, Fitness
and Wellbeing sessions at the Pavillion at the New Town Campus.

After a warm-up the sessions include circuit training and run for about an hour, we
have learned how to pace ourselves and look out for each other.
Waistline, body weight and blood pressure are checked to measure progress over
time.

The old Pavillion gym is great for our purposes and is very well organised and
maintained by the schools Phys-Ed staff. The equipment includes functional strength
training equipment (racks, weights and benches) as well as Cardio units: Bicycle,
Rowing and Skiing ergometers.

These sessions are for men only because we share and discuss topical men’s health
information which inevitably leads to some raucous interaction!
We hope to share the template for this successful project with mixed gender
graduates from HCHS as part of their new Alumni.

Attendees have noticed real benefits:

Just wanted to sing the praises of the BBT Health and Wellbeing Program. I
attended HTHS/NTHS 1960-1964 ( you do the maths!) and recently I had 4 large
gum trees at home felled to the ground. Rather than pay the contractor to remove
what will be firewood for 2028, I elected to deal with it and can safely say, that would
not have been physically possible without having participated in the BBT gym
sessions twice a week under your tutorship. While not specifically measured, my BMI
is closer to what it should be, and my general fitness and strength can only be rated
as “bloody awesome”. Check out the videos on Facebook of me dealing with a good
20+ tonnes of green wood. Repeat…would not have been possible!
