Hall of Excellence – Criteria and Nomination Form

Selection Criteria

Please read the following before completing the nomination form.

  1. Nominees must fully satisfy at least one category
  2. Only the nominee’s individual achievements in relation to the criteria will be considered
  3. The academic and co-curricular achievements allowed whilst a student at New Town High School, Hobart Junior Technical School, or Hobart Technical High School may be used to enhance the candidate’s overall nomination. However, the category’s selection criteria must be satisfied in their own right.

Panels of 3 or 5 independent persons of recognised community standing will be formed to consider and assess nominees and recommend successful appointments to the Hall of Excellence, in each of the following four categories:

1. Academic & Professional

  • Recognised as high achiever / distinguished academic and professional excellence at a state, national or international level
  • Positions held /Achievement
  • Previous awards
  • Years of Service / tenure

Automatic Eligibility for Consideration

Recognition might include University Professor / Associate, Professor, Legal Senior Counsel (SC or QC), judge, magistrate; national profile as an industry or professional leader and / or expert, senior public servant etc

Consideration for Selection which may require additional evidence.

  • Leadership of professional or industry associations, appointment to specialist or professional / leadership roles.

2. Arts/Culture

  • Recognised as high achiever / distinguished in arts and culture at a state, national or international; level
  • Positions held / contribution
  • Previous awards
  • Years of service

Automatic Eligibility for Consideration

Recognition in visual and performing arts, music and works of literature (as an artist, performer, instructor or administrator) at a National level

Consideration for Selection which may require additional evidence;

  • Work in literature, visual and performing arts, music at a State / national level

3. Community Service and Leadership

  • Recognised as making a major contributions to the community, business or political fabric at the state, national or international; level
  • Positions held / contribution
  • Previous awards
  • Years of service

Automatic Eligibility for Consideration

  • Public recognition may include Order of Australia recipients, bravery / valour decorations, election to State or Federal Parliament, senior military and police officers

Consideration for Selection which may require additional evidence;

  • Achievements might include long serving board directorships of not-for-profit organisations and advising groups, senior leadership of community service groups, election to local government as a councillor or mayor

4. Sport

  • Recognised for high achievement / distinguished sporting activity at a State, National or International level
  • Contribution
  • Previous awards
  • Years of Service

Automatic Eligibility for Consideration

  • Athlete at Olympic or Paralympic Games, Commonwealth Games or World Championships

Consideration for Selection which may require additional evidence;

  • Nominees may be a coach or team official / management / medical staff / at Olympic or Paralympic Games, Commonwealth Games or World Championships; athlete with a significant level of achievement in a sport at a state / national open level (not just competing or playing at that level); coach of a State / National League sporting club with a high level of success also senior administrators of national sporting bodies and appointed international /senior competition official  at Olympic, Paralympic, Commonwealth Games or World Championships.
